Prairie Pride is looking forward to attending the Illinois Pork Expo for the first time in just a few days.  Taking place Tuesday February 5th to Wednesday February 6th, the Expo offers a wide slate of seminars and round table discussions that are focused on helping pork producers in the northeast succeed strategically. Illinois pork producers and pork producers in surrounding regions are faced with many different challenges and this expo aims to bring pork producers together to hear from industry experts on current issues that are impacting their farms.  Of special interest to us will be the ongoing discussions on the market outlook for corn, soybeans/soybean meal and the hog market.

We are pleased to participate in this event and looking forward to meeting pork producers in the Illinois region.  The expo will be held at the Peoria Civic Center.  We will be at booth #348 – be sure to stop by and visit our booth!

Prairie Pride has had a very busy and successful 2012, and as the year quickly draws to a close, we would like to take a few moments to reflect upon this past year. 2012 marks a very special milestone in our company’s history as we celebrated 30 years in business. We have been manufacturing quality farm equipment for the hog and poultry industries since 1981. We have seen and experienced a lot of change these past 30 years, but we are proud to say that we have consistently risen to the challenges of the changing industry, and always with our customer’s best interests in mind.

This year saw many of our products submitted for testing and research at educational institutions around North America. We are proud of the fact that our products are highly regarded by those in the industry as high quality and superior performance. Our Polybin feed bins have been found to have excellent functionality and flowability with the increasing use of DDGs in feeds. We also announced our newest sales representative – in North Carolina, USA! Laura Lee has over 18 years of experience serving growers in the hog and poultry industry and we are happy to have her join our team and represent Prairie Pride.

With the holiday season fast approaching, the management and staff at Prairie Pride would like to thank you, our customers for your continued support over the years. Our accomplishments over the past 30 years would not have been possible without your feedback and cooperation. We look forward to another exciting year in 2013. To you and your loved ones, we wish you much happiness and good health this holiday season and throughout the new year.

For 30 years, Prairie Pride has been producing and distributing high quality equipment for the hog industry.  In addition to poly feed bins and poly feed tanks, we also offer pit plugs, water nipples and water tanks to serve all facets of the growers’ needs.

Our #PP-8BF Flexible Burpable Pit Plugs can fit sewer pipes that are 6” to 8”.  Its large 2” opening allows for easy filling with sand.  The pit plug is able to completely seal the liquid in to reduce manure flow problems.   Manure gas is extremely dangerous – if the pit plug is pulled and left out, near pure methane gas can enter and rise into the barn space.  Without proper ventilation or if the ventilation fan has been turned off, the methane gas can build up to dangerous explosive or flammable levels.   When plugged in, the extended bottom allows the plug to adjust and rise with gas pressure.

Our unique pit plug design includes a strong top and heavy side walls.  Combined with the flare at the top, this reduces the chance of plugs being pulled into the pipe.  The large 1.5” hold in the handle also allows for easy locating when pulling the plug.

8” Flex and 10” Flex models are also available. Contact us today for more information.

Having been in the Hog and Poultry industry for 30 years, we have seen first-hand the advantages that polyethylene feed bins and tanks have over traditional corrugated steel bins.  Metal bins are no longer the only option available to growers and with the move towards increasing DDGs feeds in feed rations, Polyethylene Bins are a better investment.

To quantify the effectiveness of polyethylene bins and tanks, we have recently submitted our poly bins for testing at the University of Minnesota.   Testing will begin shortly to determine the flowability of DDGs feeds in both polybins and the traditional steel bins.  We are confident that our poly bins with out-perform the steel bins.  The interior of our poly feed bins allows for easy and even flow, even for the most highly concentrated feeds.

We look forward to the final findings of the testing.

At Prairie Pride, we are always looking for ways to better serve our customers.  With the demand for quality polyethylene bins increasing in the South, we are excited to announce the addition of our newest sales representative located in North Carolina, USA.

Laura Lee has over 18 years of experience serving growers in the hog and poultry industry.  Having been involved in the hog industry from a young age, she has witnessed first-hand, the problems that growers experience with corrugated steel bins.  While steel bins can be more cost effective initially, they are prone to rust and corrosion over time requiring frequent repairs or replacement.

Prairie Pride-made Poly bins are made from highly durable polyethylene plastic that is as effective in cold weather as it is in hot climates.  Polyethylene plastic bins and feed tanks are strong enough to handle concentrate material.  Feed level is always visible which allows you take feed inventory from afar.  The greatest advantage to our polyethylene bins, tanks and other poly products is that they remain corrosion-free and rust-free which results in less maintenance and upkeep.
